  • Basic German Grammar and Vocabulary – Brett Siereveld and Renate Sturdevant

This class is geared to students who have been exposed to the most essential elements of basic German grammar and feel they need to review and reinforce what they’ve learned before moving on to the more advanced classes.  The class is team taught, with half of the students attending one hour with Brett while the other half attends a session with Renate.  After the break, students will switch to the other instructor.  In Brett’s hour, students will use readings and written homework to review common trouble spots in basic grammar and to expand their vocabulary. This year Brett will be focusing on some of the neglected fundamentals of the language such as negation, possessive pronouns, the subjunctive mood, and the passive voice. Native-speaker Renate will help increase the students’ confidence in their speaking, listening comprehension, and pronunciation skills through drills, games, and exercises.

  • Advanced Intermediate German – Allan Shropshire

The goal of this intermediate course is to increase student fluency in the areas of both reading and speaking. The course book, Aspekte Neu, Lehr- und Arbeitsbuch, Teil 2, Level B-2, will be the primary resource for textual, audio and video learning tools. Students should order a copy of the text (ISBN 978-3-12-605028-9), and if ordering a used copy, should ensure that the CD is included.  In addition, supplemental grammar exercises will be provided via email. Students will be encouraged to speak as much German as possible; however, the instructor will explain grammar topics in English.
